American Pie

American Pie is a comedy directed by brothers, Paul and Chris Weitz and written by Adam Herz.  The film was the first of the series, being released in 1999.  The film is centered around the lives of Michigan high school seniors – Jim Levenstein, Kevin Myers, Chris Ostreicher, Steve Stifler and Paul Finch.  Each character brings their own unique personality to the group of friends.

After hearing stories about other guys in their school, the boys agree to all lose their virginity before they graduate high school.   Each guy developed their own plan on how to win a girl over and take them to the prom.  Kevin tries to get back with his ex-girlfriend, Vicky.  Chris joined the choir to lose his reputation as a jock.  Jim devised a plan with Nadia, his study partner.  The plan completely backfired but a few days later he met a girl named Michelle.  Lastly, Finch’s plan was to pay a girl, Jessica, to spread rumors for him.

While at the prom the guys found out that the other guys in their school were not actually losing their virginity.  The news took the pressure off of all of them.  At Stifler’s after party, with the pressure gone, each guy was able to fulfill their end of the pact that they made.

American Pie was a huge success and went on to gross over $102 million in the U.S. alone.  The movie was made into a series including, American Pie 2, American Wedding, and American Reunion.   The fifth installment, American Pie 5, is currently in the works.
