Dumb and Dumber is a road-buddy comedy starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. The movie came out in 1994 and was an instant box office hit. The story follows two best friends from Providence, Rhode Island, Lloyd Christmas (Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Daniels), who have trouble with every aspect of day-to-day living. A limousine driver, Lloyd falls in love with one of his passengers, a woman named Mary Swanson who, unbeknownst to Lloyd, is on her way to the airport with a suitcase full of ransom money for her kidnapped husband. Mary accidentally leaves the suitcase at the airport and Lloyd decides to drive across the country to bring it to her in Aspen, Colorado.
Little does Lloyd know, two of the kidnappers, J.P Shay and Joe “Mental” Mentalino, are tailing him with hopes of stealing his suitcase. Scared they are debt collectors, Lloyd convinces Harry to join him on a cross-country road trip to Aspen, where he hopes Mary will initiate them into the “social pipeline”. What follows is a series of hilarious and cringe-worthy exploits in which the dumb duo screw up time and time again. In the worst of these exploits, the pair accidentally kill a disguised Mentalino with some rat poison they mistake for medicine.
When Lloyd accidentally spends the whole night driving in the wrong direction, Harry quits their cross-country journey. Fortunately, Lloyd is able to convince Harry to join him one last time with a little help from a new moped.
Things get really out of control when they finally reach Aspen. The duo spend the ransom money, find Mary, fight for her affection, and are eventually held hostage by Shay and Nicholas Andre. A last-minute raid by the FBI saves their lives, leaving the pair to go home empty-handed, but better friends than ever before.
