Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is a romantic drama released in 1994 based on the book by Winston Groom. The movie follows the adventurous life of Forrest Gump, who is played by Tom Hanks. As a kid, Forrest was bullied in school due to leg braces he had to wear. He later finds out that he is very athletic and receives a scholarship to University of Alabama.

After school, Forrest joined the army, receiving the Medal of Honor after being shot and saving four men. Once he returns to Washington, he runs into Jenny, the woman he is in love with. Upon his return from a goodwill tour playing ping-pong, he is discharged from the military. Finally, he is able to live out his dream of shrimping, buying a boat with an endorsement deal.

The Bubba Gump Shrimp Company became a huge success, because of a storm that had destroyed all of their competition’s belongings. Forrest had to put the company on hold to take care of his dying mother and put Dan in charge of the business. Dan invested money into the company, Apple Computer, which eventually made them millionaires.

Forrest begins an adventure on a coast-to-coast marathon. Along the way he teaches entrepreneurs the keys to success, making him a new found celebrity. After a brief visit back home, he reunites with Jenny. Soon after he learned they were having a child together and they finally marry in Alabama.

The film was well received by critics and fans, holding the number one position in theaters for ten weeks. The film ultimately grossed over $677 million worldwide. The film also won many awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Director and more at the Academy Awards.
