GoldenEye

GoldenEye is a film from the James Bond series released in 1995. It is the first James Bond film to star Pierce Brosnan and is directed by Martin Campbell. Other notable actors include Sean Bean, Judy Dench, and

The story follows secret agent 007, James Bond, confronting a former comrade come back from the dead. Alec Trevelyan, formerly known as 006, reveals he has been determined to strike vengeance against the British since the death of his family at English hands during the second World War. He plans to do this by giving the experimental GoldenEye satellite weapon, launched by the former Soviet Union, to a crime syndicate.

Aside from being the first movie to take place after the collapse of the USSR, GoldenEye was also the first in the James Bond series not to follow events from an Ian Fleming book. The title serves as an homage to Mr. Fleming, as it is named after an operation he was part of during his time with British Naval Intelligence.

While the film was mostly well received, and a box office hit, critics were staunch to note how different GoldenEye was from previous Bond films. They claimed the story did not hold up compared to the older movies and tried to cover this up by filling the screen with explosions.

GoldenEye is also famous for providing the story to the landmark, first person shooter video game of the same name. The game, GoldenEye, came out on the Nintendo64 in 1997 and was obscenely popular with both players and critics.
