The 90s TV Shows

Hey Arnold

Hey Arnold is an animated television series about a fourth grade boy that lives with his grandparents, Phil and Gertrude, in a multi-racial boarding house. The show was created by Craig Bartlett, and takes place the large fictional city of Hillwood that resembles Brooklyn.

His friends are a quirky and diverse crew of kids that create their own fun by playing sports on the city streets and navigating city life. A major reoccurring adventure is having to deal with urban legends and Arnold faces these adventures with the help of his friends. Other episodes focus on supporting characters such as the tenants in the boarding house owned by Arnold’s grandparents.

The show often focuses on Arnold’s classmate, Helga, who treats Arnold badly and bullies him, however, Helga secretly has a profound love of Arnold. The episodes generally follow the pattern of Arnold helping his classmate with some personal predicament and leads to Arnold, himself,  facing some bigger problem of his own.

The show was highly popular and aired 100 episodes throughout its eight year run on Nickelodeon (1996 – 2004)
