Sleepless in Seattle

Sleepless in Seattle is a romantic comedy directed and co-written by Nora Ephron. Released in 1993, the film stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan as a pair of lonely people from opposite sides of the country who are brought together by a radio talk show program.
When Sam Baldwin’s (Hanks) wife dies, he moves to Seattle with his adolescent son, Jonah. 18 months pass, but Sam still can’t get over his grief or sleep soundly at night. Despite missing his mother, Jonah decides its high time for his father to move on and find someone else to love. On Christmas Eve, Jonah convinces Sam to pour out his love and grief for his deceased wife on a national radio talk show.
Many women listen to the radio broadcast and fall in love with Sam and his story. Annie Read (Ryan) is one of these women. A Baltimore-based newspaper writer, Annie becomes infatuated with Sam despite being engaged to her fiance, Walter. Annie wants something more from her love life, something along the lines of the couple in An Affair to Remember Annie decides to write a love letter to Sam, asking him to meet her atop the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day. Of all the many love letters Sam receives, Jonah is drawn to Annie’s, pressing his father to meet Annie on the Empire State Building. Sam, however, is hesitant — he prefers to meet women the old-fashioned way. Of course, he follows his son to New York, meets Annie, and the two fall in love.
