The 90s TV Shows

Smart Guy

Smart Guy is a show that ran for 3 seasons from 1997 to 1999 in 51 episodes. It was featured on the WB Television Network and, in association with Walt Disney Television, was produced by de Passe Entertainment and Danny Kallis Productions.

Smart Guy followed 10 year old-braniac TJ Henderson, who was so darn smart that teachers give up trying to place him and moved him ahead 6 grades. He goes to high school alongside his underachieving brother, Marcus, and overachieving sister, Yvette. Other recurring characters include Marcus’ best friend Mo, and the head of the Henderson family, Floyd.

TJ’s intelligence is the primary topic of most episodes of Smart Guy. Not only does the young boy possess a photographic memory, he also speaks several languages, and retains an IQ of 180.

The show’s father character is recently widowed in coordination with the commonly held belief that only through great tragedy can one create a fun family atmosphere. This superstition brings prosperity to the Henderson family, despite the loss of their den-mother.

Smart Guy featured Tahj Mowry as TJ Henderson, piggybacking off the success of Mowry’s twin siblings from the show Sister Sister. Other actors in the show are played by siblings of celebrities as well, such as Omar Gooding, who is the brother of Cuba Gooding Junior.
