Good Will Hunting is a drama centered around a 20-year old Boston janitor and unsuspecting genius. The film was directed by Gus Van Saint and was released in 1997. Good Will Hunting shares the story Boston native Will Hunting, who at only 20-years of age has seen a his fare share of rough living. However, despite his blue collar roots, Will seems to excel tremendously in the field of math and chemistry. One day, while working at MIT as a janitor, Will solves a difficult algebra problem left behind on the board by Professor Gerald Lambeau. This occurrence strikes they Professor's attention, and later saves Will from jail time after he is arrested for beating up a childhood bully. The professor arranges for Will to stay out of jail and all he has to do is study under Lambeau and see a therapist. After meeting with therapist Sean Maguire and studying under the Lambeau, Will begins to examine his life and future. Will must decide to further his gift and look for a new career, or stick to his blue collar roots and a life of construction. To further complicate the situation, he must also deal with his inner change with his best friends and new girlfreind. Good Will Hunting would go on to be widely loved by critics. The film would also make a monumental profit at the box office, grossing over 220 million dollars worldwide while only costing a 10 million to create. Good Will Hunting was also nominated for 9 total Academy Awards. The film would then win 2 of the awards: Robin Williams for Best Supporting actor and Best Original Screenplay for Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
