Phil becomes attracted to Rita and realizes that he needs to improve himself.

From that point forward he makes a conscious effort to learn to be a more positive person to everyone around him. In the end Phil reports on the Groundhog Day celebration getting nationwide acclaim while also getting the attention of Rita. The night of the celebration Phil and Rita spend the night in his room.
