Stargate is a science fiction film that was released in 1994. The movie starts when an engraved ring is found in Egypt by an archeologist. The ring was covered in hieroglyphics. Before anyone could try to translate the meanings, U.S. Special Forces took over and privatized the mission.
Linguist, Daniel Jackson determines the writings were to show the existence of a device that is used to travel to different worlds with special coordinates. Jackson and special forces colonel, Jack O’Neil, use the Stargate to travel to a location in space through the use of a wormhole. The team ends up in a Pyramid and cannot leave because they do not have the coordinates to enter into the Stargate.
The team stumbles upon a village, where they then begin friendships with the local people. The team returns to the pyramid and moments later a spaceship carrying the alien God, Ra, lands on top. O’Neil and Jackson try to kill Ra, but ultimately Jackson gets killed and O’Neil is held captive in a dungeon.
After a battle with Ra and his guards, the team escapes to a cave. One of the members of the village helps them and draws the symbol that they need to activate the Stargate. The team continues to battle Ra and they activate the bomb that was meant for Earth on Ra’s ship, killing him and his guards.
Stargate grossed over $125 million around the world, even though receiving mixed reviews from critics and fans. The producers always wanted Stargate to be a trilogy. Unfortunately, the second and third movies were never made.
