Street Fighter

Street Fighter is a fighting game franchise from Capcom that has been released throughout the years in arcades and on consoles.

Designed by Takashi Nishiyama and Hiroshi Matsumoto, Street Fighter was first released in 1987 to arcades across the world. A player would take control of master martial artist Ryu and compete in ten fights around the globe. A any time, a second player could join in as Ken, Ryu’s friendly rival and training partner. The players move set would consist of kicks and punches that could be delivered high and low. In addition to that, a player would have 3 different special attacks to help them: Hadouken (a fireball) , Shoryuken (a jumping uppercut), and Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku (a tornado roundhouse).

In 1991, Street Fighter II: The World Warrior was released to arcades and Super Nintendo systems. As a sequel, the game was redesigned so that players could choose from a wide variety of characters from all over the globe with different martial arts styles, levels, and stories. In addition to new strikes and specials, players could also use a variety of throws and grappling attacks.

Through the years, Street Fighter has spawned numerous amounts of sequels in 2-D and 3-D across nearly every console. The franchise is often sighted as one of, if not, the greatest fighting game ever created thanks to it’s revolutionary gameplay, soundtrack and character development.

In addition to that, Street Fighter has spawned off comic books, trading cards, action figures, and even movies.
