The X-Files is a science fiction horror television series created by Chris Carter. The series originally aired on the Fox network in September 1993 for nine seasons and 202 episodes. The shows main characters and FBI Special Agent t Fox Mulder (David Duchovney) and Doctor Diana Scully (Gillian Anderson). They investigate unsolved cases surrounding paranormal phenomena’s. Agent Mulder believes that aliens exist while Agent Scully is assigned to watch Mulder while making scientific discoveries of the evidence of through his work to prove him wrong. All though in the series the two characters have a platonic relationship with one another, farther into the series it becomes a romantic relationship. Most of the seasons just focused on Agent Mulder and Scully, the last two season included new characters such as FBI Agent John Dogget (Robert Patrick)and FBI Agent Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish. The X Files became a huge successful television show sparking people’s interests in government conspiracies, extraterrestrial beings, and public mistrust of government.
In the summer of 1998 the series became a feature film. The X-Files: Fight the Future was released with Duchovney and Anderson in their principle roles as Agent Mulder and Agent Scully along with new additions to the cast including: Martin Landau, Armin Mueller-Stahl, and Blythe Danner. Some of these characters were introduced into the fifth season of the series. In November 2008 a follow up sequel came in the form of The X-Files: I Want to Believe. The film was unlike the first in the way that it was more of a horror story not just an extraterrestrial film. It followed both Agent Scully and Agent Mulder who had since left the FBI for several years , Mulder living alone as a fugitive and Scully being a medical doctor at a hospital. The film takes place after the series last season in May 2002.
