Tim Allen is an American actor, comedian and entertainer most famously known for his roles on the sitcom, Home Improvement, and as Woody in the Toy Story movies.
Tim Allen was born Tim Alan Dick in Denver Colorado on June 13th, 1953. His mother, Martha Katherine, was a community service worker and his father, Gerald M. Dick, was a real estate agent. He was the third oldest of five brothers and focused on theater and the arts at school. Tim lived through a difficult childhood after his father died a car accident with a drunk driver in 1964.
After starting stand up comedy in 1975 on a dare from one of his friends, Tim Allen quickly grew his name throughout the city of Detroit through local television and entertainment work. He used the momentum of his quickly rising career to continue on at the famous Comedy Store in Los Angeles for a time before getting cast as the star of Home Improvement in 1991.
Home Improvement was Mr. Allen’s breakthrough to stardom. On the show he assumed the role of Tim “the Tool Man” Taylor, an accident prone, do-it-yourself handyman with a local TV program and a rowdy family of his wife and three sons. Tim was known for his signature confused noise, his overly confident attitude, and his charming “man of the house” decorum.
Springing from the success of the show, Mr. Allen became a key member of several successful movie franchises such as The Santa Clause, and Toy Story. He is still active in entertainment today and his own show called Last Man Standing on ABC.
