Wishbone was a television series airing on PBS from 1995 to 1998. The show was based around the dog, a Jack Russell Terrier, Wishbone. He lived in Texas with his owner Joe Talbot. The show was based around the idea that characters in his imagination and the audience could only hear Wishbone. The show audience was targeted for children.
The show was based around Wishbone, who liked to portray different famous characters in each episode. He would portray a character, not necessarily the main character, from many different famous pieces of literature. Typically, he would dress as the character as well. The only people that could hear Wishbone were the people in his imagination that were playing out the stories with him.
The character of Wishbone, likes to combine classic works of literature with real-life problems that he is facing. In every episode he gets involved in many different scenarios that relate to different books he has read. When he wanders out with his owner, Joe, and other members of his family and community, he begins to form an imaginary action packed adventure. The show would base its episodes from works such as Joan of Arc, Don Quixote, and Robin Hood.
The show received many awards including an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award. After ending, Wishbone branched out into many different areas. Some of Wishbone episodes have been released on VHS and DVD. Computer games were made in 1996 based around the series. Finally, in 2011 a new Wishbone DVD was released, The Little Dog With a Big Imagination.
