Dennis Rodman

Dennis Rodman was a former American basketball player who played for the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Dallas Mavericks. Known for his fierce defensive game and incredible rebound skills, he was nicknamed “The Worm”. He’s perhaps most notable for his outward appearance (dyed hair color with many piercings and tattoos) and propensity to start fights with players on opposing teams.

Dennis Rodman’s time on the Detroit Pistons was mutually beneficial for both his career and the Pistons’ record. When he joined the team in 1986, he helped usher in a new era in Pistons basketball. Led by head coach, Chuck Daly and point guard Isiah Thomas, Detroit became one of the best teams in the NBA, taking the championship title in 1989 and 1990. In 1990 Rodman was selected to join the NBA All-Star Team and earned defensive player of the year. In 1992, he won the first of seven consecutive rebounding crowns.

After Chuck Daly retired from the team, Rodman’s relationship with the Pistons worsened. He was eventually traded to the San Antonio Spurs, whom he stayed with until the 1995-96 season. He did not get along well with San Antonio’s management, and this was evidenced by the many transgressions he committed throughout his brief career there, including disrupting a playoff game against the Lakers by sitting down on the court.

For the 1995-96 season, Rodman was traded again, this time to the Chicago Bulls. Rodman came in at just the right time and proved to be the perfect addition to the Chicago Bulls’ lineup. With Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen as his teammates, he’d go on to win three consecutive NBA titles.

Following his time in Chicago, Rodman signed with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 1999 season. He concluded his playing career the following year with the Dallas Mavericks.

Altogether, Rodman would finish his careers with five NBA championships and two All-Star appearances. In 2011, he was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame.
