Celebrities Fashion The 90s

Stephanie Seymour

Stephanie Seymour is an American model and actress who has appeared in numerous fashion magazines. Born in 1968 in San Diego, CA, Seymour began modeling as a teenager, doing local gigs for newspapers and hometown department stores at the age of 16. Seymour entered the Look of the Year modeling contest that same year (which was sponsored by Elite Model Management) and instantly caught the eye of Elite owner John Casablancas. She soon moved to New York to work for Elite, and entered into a relationship with Casablancas; the two briefly lived together before Seymour broke off the relationship.

Though she and Casablancas were no longer together, Seymour rose to prominence in the fashion industry on her own terms, doing shoots for Victoria’s Secret and working with Sports Illustrated for their swimsuit issues–both relationships that would last for many years. In 1991, Seymour decided to branch out and posed for the first of several adult photo shoots that would appear in Playboy. During this time she also became involved with Axl Rose, the lead singer of rock group Guns ‘N’ Roses, and later appeared in two music videos for the band’s songs “Don’t Cry” and “November Rain.”

Once again, Seymour ended the relationship with Rose (after Rose accused her of infidelity), and the two went through a messy series of public lawsuits while Seymour began seeing billionaire publisher Peter Brant. Her music video experience gave her an appetite for acting, and she went on to appear in Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller in 1994 and guest starred on an episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent in 2002. She has several children, two of whom–Peter and Harry–are also in the fashion industry.
