The 90s TV Shows

Super Jeopardy

Jeopardy! is a television quiz show created by Merv Griffin in which contestants are given clues in the form of an answer and have to phrase a response in the form of a question. The show has been hosted by Alex Trebek since 1984.

In 1990 from June 16 to September 8, they aired a special called Super Jeopardy! It was a 13-week single-elimination tournament on ABC Saturday nights that featured past champions of the show competing for a prize of $250,000.

The field was made up of 36 top contestants, with 4 players per episode competing in the quarterfinals, and 3 per episode in the semi-finals and finals. Instead of the questions being valued by money, they were valued in points because the winner would get the grand prize, not what he or she compiled during the show like in regular Jeopardy!.

Bruce Seymour ended up winning the $250,000, while Bob Verini placed second and won $50,000. There have been plenty of other special tournaments in the history of Jeopardy!, but Super Jeopardy! was the first and started off the decade of the 90s with a bang.
