Laser Tag is a game that was first developed in 1979 after the release of the Star Trek Electronic Phasers. Since then, the game has become extremely popular for all ages. The concept of the game is to score points by tagging targets with an infrared device. The device, typically resembling a gun, shoots an infrared beam to an infrared reading target, making it painless.
People are able to play this game individually or in teams, with restricted boundaries. Typically, you want to shoot your opponents in a specific area on their body where the infrared can be recorded. Sometimes, there are also central targets or home bases where people can go and score points without actually aiming at an opponent.
The game can be played indoors or outdoors. With indoor laser tag, the teams or individuals are put in a dark room with fog. The fog helps to see where the lasers are being pointed and if you have hit the target. When playing laser tag outdoors, the game is usually set in a more open space with different obstacles. Rather than vests being worn like indoor laser tag, when playing outdoors players wear a head sensor that will record the hits.
In both indoors and outdoors, the object of the game is to get as many hits on your opponents as possible. Laser tag has often been compared to a mixture of paintball and capture the flag. People are now forming teams for competitions that are being held at a local, state, national, and international level.
