The Magic School Bus, was a popular animated cable television series created for children in 1994. Developed by Scholastic Studios from the book of the same name it took kids on an exciting and educational journey of science, nature, and what really goes on in the human body.
Broadcasting & Cable reported it as being one of the “highest rated shows on PBS for school age children”. The 30 min series first broadcast premiered on September 10, 1994 on PBS Kids. The show ran successfully for 3 years on PBS before ending on December 6, 1997. The series then went into syndication from September 1998 to September 2002 on Fox networks until it was picked up by Qubo in September 2010. Currently it is not being shown on cable television.
The premise follows a distinctive and imaginative grade school science teacher named Ms. Frizzle (voiced by Lily Tomlin) who takes her students on a magical school bus ride allowing them to fully explore anything and everything in the world. Journey’s take them everywhere from soaring through the sky in a meteor shower discovering all the planets in the solar system, to safari rides through Africa learning about the Eco system and animal habitats, to being washed down a human esophagus where they learn about the human body and all of its counterparts. All to find themselves back in their seats by the end of class bell.
