Mr. Burns is a fictional villain from the sitcom The Simpsons. He is the boss of Homer J. Simpson and owns the nuclear power plant that employs a large sector of Springfield. His comically insidious deeds like polluting the Springfield river to the point where the fish grow extra eyes often have repercussions that effect the whole community.
Mr. Burns was born Charles Montgomery Burns. His exact birth date is unknown, but he did graduate from Yale University in 1914, making him extremely old. His impressive age is often the butt end of a lot of jokes on the show, and he is only kept functional by the care of his doting personal assistant known simply as Smithers. Smithers secret love for Mr. Burns is another ongoing gag on the program.
Mr. Burns lives in an elaborate mansion called Burns Manor. His catch phrase is an elongated version of the word “excellent”. His character is an amalgamation of several noteworthy figures from history, nearly all American tycoons. Harry Shearer who voices Mr. Burns claims that his sound is a purposeful cross between Lionel Barrymore and Ronald Reagan.
