Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot is an American series of 3D video games first released in 1994 by Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin of Naughty Dog. The games take place in a fictional place called Wumpa Islands somewhere south of Australia. It follows Crash, a human like wild animal, as he goes head to head with an evil Doctor Neo Cortex whose main goal is to destroy Crash and take over Wumpa Island. The initial release of Crash Bandicoot was offered on PlayStation game console however while playing the game on the Sony Console creator Jason Rubin discovered multiple empty areas in the game and numerous flaws in character design. After a redesign in January 1996, Crash Bandicoot was officially released at the Electronic Entertainment Expo on May 1996. In October 1996 Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back was created under the new engine name “Game Oriented Object LISP 2”, this game engine was created to handle ten times the animation frames creating a smoother background in the actual gameplay.

Crash 2 became a commercial success provoking a third addition to the series called Crash Bandicoot: Warped. Initially Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin only had signed contracts intending to produce three Crash series games, however with high commercial success of the first two it left many ideas on the board for expansion, therefore marking the end of Naughty Dogs Crash Bandicoot series. The series new home was with Mark Corny and Vicarious Visions who would later develop two separate games within the series. The new addition was titled Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure. This game heavily mirrored the third installment of the Crash series but would later be developed for a new game console. The fourth and final game released under Vicarious Visions was Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto’s Rampage for Game Boy Advance.
