The 90s TV Shows

Johnny Bravo

Johnny Bravo was an animated show on the Cartoon Network, premiering in 1997.  It was created by Van Partible and used the voices of Jeff Bennett, Marc Silk, and Brenda Vaccaro. The show was based around a man with a very muscular physique who had an ‘Elvis’ like voice.  Johnny always wore skin-tight jeans and a black shirt with sunglass, never revealing his eyes.

The main plot and theme of the show was based around Johnny chasing woman.  However, he never had the ability to secure dates or even attract the women he was pursuing.  His constant pressuring of women to go out on dates with him usually left him beaten and rejected.  Johnny was portrayed as an air-headed, clueless character. Even his mother, Bunny Bravo, did not take him seriously.  Another main character of the show was Little Suzy, Johnny’s next-door neighbor. She has a major crush on Johnny throughout the series, but he finds her extremely annoying.

The series began as a spin off from another Cartoon Network show, World Premiere ToonsWhen Johnny Bravo ended in 2004, many of the writers such as Seth MacFarlane and Butch Hartman, went on to create many more animated and successful shows such as, Family Guy, American Dad, and The Fairly OddParents.

Johnny Bravo creators made a movie for television, Johnny Bravo Goes to Bollywood, that was aired in India, the United Kingdom, and Australia.  Reruns of the actual TV series still are being played on the Boomerang channel and Cartoon Planet.

The show was well received by audiences and critics during the time it was on television.  The series had numerous celebrity guest appearances throughout its seven years on television.  It was also nominated and even won many different awards.  Johnny Bravo was also turned into a video game, Johnny Bravo: Date-O-Rama!.
