Nick Hornby is a British novelist, screenwriter and essayist. He is the author of books like About a Boy, Fever Pitch, and High Fidelity.
Hornby was born in 1957 in Surrey, England. He attended Cambridge College where he studied English.
Despite his massive commercial success now, Hornby did not publish his first novel, Fever Bitch until 1992. Three years later, he wrote High Fidelity. In 1998, he published About a Boy. His books have sold over five million copies and have been translated into dozens of languages. Penguin is his current publisher.
Hornby’s three most popular novels have all been turned into feature-length films. Hornby wrote the screenplay for each film. Actors such as Colin Firth, Drew Barrymore, Johnny Depp and John Cusack have appeared in the flicks.
The movies were mostly received with positive reviews and further spin-offs have emerged from Hornby’s works, including a Broadway musical and a TV show adaption of About a Boy that began airing in 2014.
Other than writing novels, Hornby is an accomplished music critic and lyricist. Many of his novels center around rock traditionalism. He was also nominated for an Oscar in 2009 for his screen adaption of the book An Education.
