No Doubt is a rock band that was formed in the 1980s and became increasingly popular throughout the 90s. Throughout their nearly 30-year career, No Doubt has released six studio albums, received two Grammy Awards, and sold a worldwide total of over 30 million albums.
The style of rock that No Doubt plays has combined many genres, including ska, punk, reggae, and pop. After heavy turnover over their first couple years as a band, they ended with the steady lineup of members: Gwen Stefani, Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal, and Adrian Young, with additional touring members.
No Doubt formed in the late 1980s in the typical fashion, kids playing music in their parent’s garage. The original members included Gwen Stefani (the only member still in the band), Eric Stefani, John Spence, Jerry McMahon, Chris Leal, Gabe Gonzalas, Alan Meade, and Tony Meade. They started playing locally in California over the next few years, gaining new members and losing old ones, and in 1990 they were signed to a new record label, Interscope Records. Due to the band’s popularity, No Doubt received a multi-record deal and they have been steadily recording with Interscope with their most recent album, “Push and Shove,” coming out in 2012.
Despite a fairly steady release of albums, No Doubt has broken up multiple times. In 2004, they went on their first hiatus during which several of the members, including lead singer Gwen Stefani and guitarist Tom Dumont, went on to form their own solo careers and work on other projects. While Gwen was touring, the band continued to plan and write their next album. In 2010, the band reformed, and the album that became “Push and Shove” was released in 2012.
Following their most recent album, No Doubt went on a second hiatus after beginning work on a new album. The band is not currently recording or touring, but they have hinted that they will regroup in 2014.
