The 90s TV Shows

The Amanda Show

The Amanda Show was a comedy sketch show that lasted about four years airing on Nickelodeon. The show was created in 1999 as a spinoff of the television show – All That, which also starred Amanda Bynes.  The Amanda Show unexpectedly came to an end in September of 2002.

The show was based in a fictional universe, where the cast would play themselves or other characters in a variety of plots.  One of the most popular characters Amanda Bynes played was Penelope Taynt, who was her obsessive number one fan.  Penelope would do anything to get the chance to meet Amanda, but no matter how close she got, her plans always failed.

The Amanda Show not only created new sketches and ideas but also used many parodies of popular television shows at that time.  For example, ‘Judge Trudy’ was a parody of the hit show ‘Judge Judy’.  ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’ became ‘So You Want to Win Five Dollars?’  The writers and producers often used relevant and popular topics to create new and refreshing comedic sketches for the show.

Once the show was cancelled, Nickelodeon created a new show featuring some of the original casts members.  Drake & Josh was created in 2004 featuring Drake Bell, Josh Peck, and Nancy Sullivan, all who starred on The Amanda Show.   Reruns of the show have aired on TeenNick, Nicktoons in the UK, and Nickelodeon Canada since getting cancelled in 2002.
