The 90s TV Shows

Uncle Jesse

Uncle Jesse is a fictional uncle and character from the popular 90s TV show Full House. His birth name was Hermes Katsopolos, but he eventually changed his first name so he could be a hip, young cat.

Uncle Jesse has two children of his own, Nicky and Alex, with his wife, Rebecca. In spite of this fact, he refuses to be called “father Jesse”, casually asserting that father was his father’s name. Jesse’s issues with his father are never fleshed out during the show, except that he yells “dad!” and inexplicably flinches every time he sees a rake during the course of season four. This mannerism became a favorite among fans of the show during the early 90s.

Uncle Jesse is obsessed with his hair, and many episodes of Full House focus on him losing or damaging the myriad tools he uses to treat it. Around his wife, Jesse is always careful to refer to his hair as “Neighbor Phillip”. This becomes a major issue in their marriage during the course of season eight until Phillip is forced to tragically move out of Jesse’s hair.

Full House always presented Jesse as a central character, but the central characters in Jesse’s life were always any little boys who wanted a big man with nice hair to teach them how to roller blade.
