Will & Grace is an American sitcom that debuted on NBC in 2008. The show was originally a hot topic because of the way it portrayed homosexual characters. After the initial controversy faded, Will & Grace had a successful run that lasted for 8 seasons and 184 episodes and earned 18 Primetime Emmys.
Will & Grace is based in New York City and features a gay man, Will, and his friend Grace. Other main characters include Jack, Will’s flamboyant friend, and Karen, Grace’s bisexual assistant. The show focused on topics like relationships, sex, and culture, and was filmed in front of a live studio audience.
At its peak, Will & Grace averaged about 17 million viewers, and the season finale reached over 18 million viewers and reached a rank of 8 in most popular TV shows. Although the show was a light-hearted comedy, it was one of the first that focused on homosexuality and helped give the issue of gay representation more attention in the media. Although the show ended in 2006, it has helped spawn more television that feature homosexual characters, and is still running successfully in syndication.
