Xena is a fictional character from the TV show Xena: Warrior Princess, who travels across the ancient world with her companion-slash-lover Gabrielle to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Although she was originally a spin-off character from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena’s show became far more popular than the original series and is now considered a cult hit.
Xena is a warrior princess who battles across the land to make up for the sins of her dark past. While the show stuck solely to ancient Greek mythology at first, it branched off in the later seasons to cover themes from Judeo-Christian beliefs as well as other religions. Although Xena: Warrior Princess is set a long time ago it makes rampant use of slang and ideology from modern life in the real world.
Xena is considered a role model by many in the lesbian community, because she was one of the first lesbian protagonists on TV. She proudly displays her close relationship with Gabby, and shares a notorious kiss with her during a mouth to mouth revival scene in a sexy lake. The show never officially endorses this relationship, but we all know what’s going on.
