Goodfellas is an American action and crime film that was released in 1990, written by Martin Scorsese and Nicholas Pileggi. The movie stars Robert De Niro playing Jimmy Conway, Joe Pesci playing Tommy Devito and Ray Liotta playing Henry Hill. As a kid, Henry Hill had always wanted to be involved in the Lucchese crime family, so he worked his way into the gangster life.
Henry and Tommy concoct a plan to steal money off of cargo that is passing through a New York airport. By doing this, Henry worked his way up on the bosses list, trusting him more. The men begin to throw themselves into the crime family, hijacking trucks, fighting, and even murdering people.
Things take a turn for the worst when Henry, Tommy and Jimmy kill a member of the Gambino crime family. Fearing that the Gambino family may kill them for this, they bury the body in upstate New York. A few months go by and Henry and Jimmy are sent on a job in Florida to collect from a gambler. While on the job, they are arrested and in order to support his family, Henry becomes a drug dealer in jail.
After being released, Henry continues to not only sell but also use drugs. This continues to get him in trouble, and is ultimately arrested again. Paulie, the boss, decides to cut ties and lets him go. In the end, Henry joins the witness protection program and tries to live as a normal man.
Goodfellas was nominated for six Oscars and five Golden Globe Awards. They won one Oscar for best actor in a supporting role, Joe Pesci. They were also nominated and won many other awards for this movie. In the U.S. alone, Goodfellas grossed over $46 million.
