The 90s TV Shows

Seinfeld

Seinfeld is one of the most critically acclaimed sitcoms in American television history, often ranking as the #1 series of all-time according to some media outlets. Produced by Larry David and stand-up comedian Jerry Seinfeld, the comedy premiered in 1989 and lasted 9 seasons until it’s record breaking finale in 1998.

Seinfeld followed the lives of four friends and manhattanites as they lived their everyday lives, went to work, and dated. Throughout the course of an episode audiences would all watch along as Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer engaged in side-splitting hijinks and misadventures that were often based on David and Seinfeld’s real life experiences.

The show’s main foursome included Jerry, a stand-up comedian who analyzed everything around him; George Costanaza, Seinfeld’s neurotic bald and stocky best friend; Elaine Benes, an editor and who isn’t afraid to be blunt; and Cosmo Kramer, Seinfeld’s goofy and free-loading neighbor.

The show was different than many of the other comedy’s at the time in that it focused on on trivial conversations and daily situations, rather than one single drawn out plot.  In addition to that, the show featured a large background cast of characters who played heavily in the show’s series.

One of the show’s most famous episodes included “The Chinese Restaurant”, where the four were forced to wait for a table for an entire episode.  Another was titled “The Parking Garage”, where the gang spent an entire episode lost in a mall garage because they couldn’t find their car.

Described as “the show about nothing”, Seinfeld has engraved some of the most recognizable quotes, phrases, and traditions into our society’s culture. From “No soup for you” to “Shrinkage” to the new holiday tradition of “Festivus”.
