Space Jam is arguably one of the greatest films of all time. Right up there with The Godfather and Citizen Kane, Space Jam brings together the best of two worlds: the unreal basketball stylings of Michael Jordan and the nostalgic charm and wit of Looney Tunes. Space Jam seamlessly blends together fast-paced, live-action film-making with beautiful animation, creating a visual treat for the ages.
The plot is simple: Swackhammer, CEO of Moron Mountain, an amusement park on an alien planet, is losing money off of his park’s stale entertainment value. Desperate for some new talent, he sends his pipsqueak alien minions to planet Earth in order to coerce the Looney Tunes into entertainment slavery. Distubred, but not altogether intimidated by these puny and tubby alien intruders, the Looney Tunes challenge them to a basketball game: If they win, the aliens leave them alone; if they lose, the aliens get to bring them back to Moron Mountain for eternity. Bugs Bunny and the gang are convinced this will be a blow-out game, but they forget they are dealing with a rather devious bunch of aliens. The aliens steal the talents of leading NBA players, transform into massive and talented alien basketball players, and threaten the Looney Tunes well-being. In a last-minute gambit, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck convince Michael Jordan to leave his faltering baseball career (long story) and play on their team. What follows is a fantastic and hilarious basketball game with surprise guest performances from Bill Murray and Wayne Knight.
