Movies The 90s

Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction is an action/drama film released in 1994. It is famously directed by Quentin Tarentino, who also co-wrote the screenplay and makes a short cameo in the movie.

The story in this movie moves in a non-linear fashion, meaning it presents scenes outside of chronological order. One plot follows hit-men Vincent Vega and Jules Winfield as they botch a job for their boss, another part shows Vega taking care of his boss’s girlfriend while he is away, and the last story is about a boxer named Butch running from the mob. All of these narratives intersect throughout different points of the movie.

Pulp Fiction stars John Travolta, Samuel L Jackson, Bruce Willis, and Uma Thurman. The film was nominated for 7 Oscar Awards and won the Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Due to its dark content, use of pastiche, and constant self references, it is considered by most critics as a prime example of a post-modern film and a black comedy.

Pulp Fiction is often considered one of the best movies of the 90s, if not one of the best movies of all time. It is Tarentino’s most popular work. At the box office Pulp Fiction took in around 213 million dollars worldwide even though the production only cost around 5 million to make.
